We can all make a difference to the world we live in!

Ban plastic pollution on sea. Infographi

Did you know that according to the journal 'Science', between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean each year. These were figures published in 2015 - so the plastic pollution is likely to be even higher now.

We need to reduce our plastic consumerism because the plastic that does not end up in landfill, recycling or incineration is thought to end up in the ocean.

Plastic can enter the ocean as large, identifiable items or as microplastics - pieces under five millimetres in length. Both pose a threat to marine life. Large pieces degrade over time to become microplastics, but never fully disappear.  We want to help be part of the solution by not using plastic in our products.

Hard plastic and hard nylon chew toys can be too hard for your dog’s teeth. These toys have little to no “give,” and as a result they have led to many tooth fractures. If you can't indent the toy with your fingernail, then it's too hard for your dog's teeth. Making matters worse, a reasonably good chewer can rip off pieces of plastic and swallow them, leading to a likely digestive obstruction.

Some of these dog chew toys have been found to have lead, and BPAs (Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates) which can be harmful for your dog.

The world is beginning to tackle the threat of plastic waste, according to the renowned broadcaster Sir David Attenborough:

"I think we are changing our habits, and the world is waking up to what we've done to the planet," he said recently.

It feels overwhelming to think about the damage we have done with our relentless plastic consumption, but here at Dog Buddy Toys, we have one small solution for you: buy eco-friendly, plastic-free, bio-degradable, recycled cotton rope toys and you will have made a positive consumer choice for the environment.

(And you'll have a happy dog in the process! Woof!)

Dog Buddy Toys are made from recycled natural cotton, which is braided and turned into a number of different styled toys.

Our toys have no hard plastic bits, so your dog can chew safely without fear of fracturing or breaking teeth, swallowing plastic that can cause digestive obstruction, or causing long term illness by absorbing the lead that has been found in many of these plastic / rubber toys.

You can rest assured that when the time comes to say farewell to a beloved rope toy - it will biodegrade naturally over the course of a few months.

Cheap plastic goods are invariably manufactured in countries where environmental regulations are lax or irregularly enforced, and as a result usually don't last long. The broken toys find their way into landfill or worse - our oceans - and we head back out into the pet shops in search of yet more cheap plastic products for our dogs to play with.

In contrast, our Dog Buddy Toy products are robust, strong, thick braided rope toys made from recycled cotton that are designed to out-last other cotton dog toy products.

We suggest if the long threads do become loose then simply trim them off with scissors.

We chose the distinctive colouring of yellow and blue because those are the colours that a dog is more likely to see on the spectrum. We want you to feel confident that your dog is getting maximum enjoyment and stimulation from an environmentally friendly and durable toy.

Your dog loves it when you play with them. Studies show that dogs who experience positive human interactions - such as bonding over play - are much less likely to experience chronic stress responses over time, as confirmed by the level of cortisol in their fur. Significantly lower cortisol levels, indicating lower long-term stress levels, were found in the dogs whose owners played with them often. Do your dog a favour and play with them each day! It's been proven that a dog at home reduces stress for the humans - so let's pay them back by dedicating a little bit of time to reducing their stress with some tug of war or ball throwing or fetching!

We struggle to clean our dog's teeth. That's why we are so keen on rope toys as they help keep teeth clean by giving  your dog something that they can chew on. Our toys, made of natural cotton, have rope fibres  that actually help to floss and clean your dog’s teeth.  The braided feature of our rope-toys supports cleaning them from all sides. It’s like having all the benefits of flossing, but none of the fuss!
